LOVE AND WAR: BOOK FIVE—PART OF A COMPLETED SCI-FI ROMANCE SERIES (30-DAY AUDIOBOOK RENTAL). NARRATED BY GWENDOLYN DRUYOR.
His fate is to save a planet in crisis.
Survival comes second to that.
That’s what Kade of House Shadow Wing has always believed, ever since his parents were executed for their political beliefs and he was jailed for daring to be their son. Just his luck that a female human diplomat with hard eyes and a silver tongue would choose the most inconvenient possible moment to barrel in, upending all of Kade’s carefully constructed plans.
With the situation on Ilarius descending into chaos, Ambassador Isadora Martinez makes him question all of his assumptions about the future. A former Terra Novan Special Forces Major and current pain in Kade’s ass, Martinez seems to think there’s a way out of this mess that doesn’t involve blood running like a river through the streets of the Capital.
But talk is cheap in Kade’s world. When the pair become the prime targets of an out-of-control Regime desperate to cling to power, their ability to work together will mean life or death not only for themselves, but also for the besieged human population they’re struggling to protect.
The war for Ilarius’ future just went from cold to hot.
Until it’s won, Kade can’t afford to think about a future beyond the fight for survival.

Absolutely brilliant series. Love the build up to the connection and intimate scenes and the unique features of the characters. More please.
I got this along with the rest of the series and found them all to be un put downable - I gorged on the stories which were engaging, clever, and with great characters, about whom you really care before the end of the first book.Sci_fi isn't everyones cup of tea, but these are not a bad way to dip your toe into the genre if you feel like trying, but for the seasemed reader there is planty to enjoy too.
Kade, the tortured hero. Isadora the kickass veteran with PTSD. Such a slow build up, but such a satisfying and steamy ending.I do agree with another reviewer that the epilogue was a little contrived. I would have preferred a snapshot of the future. This was a really enjoyable and well-written series. This series is definitely at the higher end of KU options. Each book ends happily for now while contributing to a greater story arc with a satisfying conclusion. The characters are consistent, editing is good, world-building is adequate for a romance genre series. The merry band of misfits made up of Vithii aliens with a stray human and cyborg added into the mix. Each book focuses on one person (in one book it focuses on two) in the group of renegades. Their relationships develops as they fight against a genocidal regime. These books have plots. The plots are the reason for the book, not connectors between **** scenes. I appreciate that.Steffan is a generous author with free peaks available on her website. She also has links to a secret prologue at the end of the books. I look forward to seeing how she develops. I'm hoping for more books with a sci-fi / urban bent with even more character development and detail in the worlds.Hey, if you found this helpful, click that button below. It gives me an odd sense of satisfaction to know that someone actually read this.
A slow burn romance that ties together the end of an epic series with humor, heart and heat ;). I fell in love with these characters from the first chapter and while I'm sad it's over I have very much enjoyed the ride. If you're looking for a space romance with slow burn and a lot of humor try this series.
I enjoyed reading this book, it has a great storyline, loved this series. There is lots of action, intrigue and the chemistry and interaction between the characters of is great. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This is how you wrap up a series: With a hero so broken I worried he'd get lost forever. RA Steffan has more than earned her status as a gifted and talent author!
Kade is the most brash element of the Shadow Wing. Always analytical and aloof from the other members but loving them all the same. Fighting the Regime is all that matters. His medical condition is very limiting and has the weight of a death sentence over his head. He dared not to dream life could be different until he meets ambassador Martinez. She gets under his skin in a way that could have unpredictable consequences. Will they be able to fight the Regime and still build something else, or is Kade to jaded and far gone? Very fitting end to a wonderful series...
As a long time reader of Steffan's books I hardily awaited this conclusion to the series. Spoiler alert: I enjoyed the intrigue, adventure and the conflict but I was so sorry for Kade that he missed it all. I am very happy that he got his life back and found a mate at last. No one deserved it more. I thought the ending was a little abrupt and I hated the epilogue. I understand the reason behind it and the references therein but as a romantic at heart, I would have rather had a continuation of the romance between Kade and Isadora. I think he deserved that, IMO.The editor missed some words and misplaced others therefore I am docking 1/2 a star for that. 4 1/2 ****
