GOOD SERIES!

I enjoyed it! The narration was good and kept me entertained. The author did an good job with the characters. I have read all the books in this series and enjoyed them as well. I really enjoy this author's books and can't wait to start the next series, The Last Vampire! I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Premise was Unexpected

The premise was one that I had not encountered before. It was quite good, but simplistic. Dad does something bad, counters it by doing something good, daughter and helpers bring it to fruition and she finds love along the way.

Antidote: Love and War, Book 1

Antidote: Love and War is a sizzling science fiction romance and the first book in a new series by R.A. Steffan. It features Skye Chantrell, a scientist's daughter who is carrying the antidote for a bioweapon and is caught up against her will in a political conspiracy against the Regime. The plot and storyline are good, but the story does lack some depth. The characters, both main and the supporting cast, are interesting and unique, but not so well defined and could have been developed much more.Interesting and original, overall this science fiction and romance made for an enjoyable read.

Antidote

I downloaded Antidote: Love and War, book 1, as a free ebook from Amazon. I have to say, I enjoyed this story a lot more than I anticipated. The blurb seemed a bit TMI and I worried there might be a lack of tension and surprise, but the writer did a good job of developing the characters, and I enjoyed the pacing, as well as the plot.

Excellent!

I loved this book. I don't know if this author is new to writing or not but it was VERY well-written. I love a book that uses a bigger vocabulary than just "he said this" and "she said that". I feel like the story could have been fleshed out a little bit more-- towards the end it felt a little bit rushed, but the prose was overall so well-written that I didn't care. Interesting characters, whom we are getting to know little by little. I have already bought and downloaded the next two books in the series and I will definitely be hoping for more.I have waded through a lot of mediocre indie authors and it thrills me to stumble upon one who has a true gift for writing. This author will definitely go on my auto-buy list.

Good but . . .

The story was good, but I wish there was a bit more romance to build Sky and Hunter relationship. They were thrown together by unexpected circumstances and they slowly start to learn about each other, then things moved along rather fast. Along the way, you get glimpses of Pax, Kade, Ash, Ryder and Draven's past. On top of all, there feels like things are left out about the world itself. nothing is explained as to why things are the way they are and why the Premiere is doing what he is doing. So you feel kind of thrown in the middle of something without any knowledge as to why. The author uses words that are not explained as to what they mean and there are no annotations as to what these words mean.

Enjoyable sci fi; more action than romance

Really enjoyable sci fi; more of an action book than a romance. To refute another reviewer, I thought the worldbuilding and secondary character development were adequate. I dislike when those take a back seat because an author hasn't actually thought them out, but you can tell here that everything has been considered and will just be revealed over multiple books. The **** scene was hot, but I do wish there had been more than one haha. I was also a little put off by the insta-love on the part of the human - the alien had a biological explanation for insta-love, but I think the human could have developed those stronger feelings more slowly. I do respect that this series is written so each can also be a standalone, so Steffan was working on more of a "deadline" for the HEA than she has to with a longer series that is not standalone.

Aliens, okayyyyyyyy

First of all I have to say that I am prejudice because I am a fan of Ms. Steffan. I have read all of her books because they are addictive. This is the first of 3 plus a free prologue and more to come. I disagree with some of the other reviewers about the set up of the background but in the next 2 books it goes into even more detail. As far as instalove is concerned, this young woman (heroine) has just watched her father killed before her eyes and her foster brother dragged off to who knows where by the "evil regime". Her mother is long dead, she was a child when that hapened. She is totally alone with the responsibility to save the human race on this outpost which was basically invaded by the aliens and are now trying to take over the whole planet. She is a bloody accountant not a warrior and totally out of her element. She ends up crashed on a remote moon inhabited by this motly group of vigilantes that have been slandered by the regime and labeled the worst outlaws ever. Fake News personified. The undertones of this whole series is eerily familiar to today. Anyway, they adopt her into their little army and go off to stop the murder of thousands with the antidote that her father gave her before he was killed. It introduces you to each of the members of their group and sets up for the coming stories of each of them. It is a good start to a very unique series and I found it very enjoyable. Try it, you will like it and will become addicted just like me.

Interesting Story

While part of this was your typical Alien and Human Romance, the other part made you want to stand up and cheer on the the rebels. This had well developed characters and interesting story line. I loved that there was only one explicit **** scene because it makes the story about the plot rather than just ****. What I found funny was the description of the alien's **** during ****. You will have to read it to believe it. I also loved the snark and the things they would say and get mad at each other about.I would recommend this book to Science Fiction Romance fans. I will definitely be buying the series.P.S. I found it incredibly funny that one reviewer thought that R A Steffan was a man. I don't know her, but her author profile shows a lady in period riding dress in a sidesaddle. That would be kinda hard to imitate for a man, but ya never know.

Action filled romance

Skye's father worked as a scientist for the "Regime". He was forced to make a biological weapon that would kill all of the humans in the Capital City. He designed an antidote to be used against the weapon. Her father gave her the formula hidden electronically in an earring right before they killed him. Skye then runs and crashes a stolen spaceship. She is saved by a group of Vithii(alien) and a cyborg that were hiding on the small planet.Hunter is the leader of the rebel group that does anything and everything to go against the evil Premiere and his Regime soldiers. They all want revenge because of things done to themselves or their family by the Regime.I truly enjoyed the book. There was plenty of action involved, some mystery, lots of technological equipment used as well as romance. I agree with some of the reviewers that there needed to be some more explanation into who the Vithii are and other world building attributes, but I still enjoyed the story none the less. This is a new author to me and I will definitely be reading more in this series!

A very enjoyable read

This book was a very enjoyable read. The characters were very well written and the plot was interesting. I really enjoyed both main characters. I also enjoyed all of the supporting characters. I can't wait to see what happens to all of them in their own stories.

Good but could be better

Good story but there wasn’t enough world-building for me. I’m getting the feeling that there are other novels out there that contain the information I’m looking for, but how would I have known that? The title and description are misleading - it’s the first book, so it should contain more information re: setting. Plus it’s said it could be read as a stand-alone novel. It can, but there are too many questions unanswered for that to be an accurate and acceptable description. Additionally, character development seemed a bit superficial. I definitely would have loved to know more of the back story for the two main characters, though I can certainly understand why it seemed inopportune, given the nature of the plot. On the whole, this novel is ok but unsatisfying.

Surprisingly a good read

It started off cold and sterile but action-packed for me because I'm a romance-fanatic. It finally got around to the drama only budding love can bring. Then, the story took on a whole other meaning as I began to root for the Shadow Wing as they tried to save themselves and humanity. Too bad the rest of the series aren't on KU and at 4 bucks a book, if not more, is too much for my purse with my family's hands already in it.

Loved it

4 stars - It was really goodIt’s been years since I read this book but it was just as good as I remembered. Skye Chantrell escaped a war zone carrying a stolen antidote for a deadly bioweapon targeted towards humans. Her damaged shuttle crashes on a remote lunar outpost and into one of the Seven Systems' more feared criminal’s hands. But this brutal criminal isn’t what she expected and she quickly finds herself falling for him, and he for her.This was an absolute wonderful blend of romance and action, and just everything I love about sci-fi romance. Hunter and Skye start off a little rocky considering Skye thinks he is the worst criminal in the world but quickly their feelings can’t be ignored. I loved that while this is a fated mates story, we still see their relationship build and grow. It’s not an instant love fated mates story, which was perfect for the situation and these characters. Also, I really wasn’t expecting the Vithii mating practices but it was hot!While these two are falling for each other, I loved that they remained focused on the mission at hand. While Skye initially seems to be out of her depth at sabotage, we quickly see that she has a core of steel and can be quite deadly with a gun when necessary. I love when we get a strong heroine who also isn’t afraid to show her grief and vulnerable side. I also appreciated that while Hunter had an extreme need to protect Skye, he fights it and lets her participate in the mission.Overall, this was an absolutely wonderful start to a series and I cannot wait to see what will happen next. Also, I really love this crew and can’t wait to learn more about them.Trigger Warnings: Skye's father was killed in front of her; grief; death of parents discussed; PTSD;
