REVERSE HAREM DRAGON RIDER ROMANCE (AUDIOBOOK, LGBT).
They’re the last five dragons in existence.
To survive, they must form soul-bonds with five noble humans.
Too bad they’re stuck with us instead.
The angry drunk. The shameless womanizer. The coward who ran away and got his comrades killed. The ice-cold assassin for hire. And me, the foreign girl with abandonment issues as deep and wide as the Southern Sea.
My four knights in tarnished armor are all that stand between the dragons and a corrupt ruler intent on hunting them to extinction. A ruler, I might add, whom I managed to personally offend by escaping his harem of unwilling concubines. So… yeah. Let's just say that so far, this experience hasn't lived up to my childhood dreams of travel to exotic faraway lands.
I left home in search of adventure. Instead, I stumbled into the middle of a desperate struggle for survival.
Five people. Five mythical beasts.
If we manage to get through this mess, it’s going to be a miracle.

The Dragon Mistress is the first in a new series, and it does, as forewarned by the author, end in a major cliffhanger. This book takes place in a world introduced in two previous series by Steffan, but I am not familiar with those works and had no trouble falling right into the story. The heroine of the story, Frella, is a young woman seeking adventure by traveling far from home. Frella has a fierce, independent spirit, and she desperately wants to experience everything this new world has to offer. She immediately gets herself in dire straits and is rescued by three mercenaries in the process of escorting a wealthy lady to her intended. Raythe, Aristide and Eldris are three men from different backgrounds and with completely different personalities, but they are comrades in arms and have formed an unlikely family. After further life threatening adventures on her own, in one of which she meets a young stable hand, Nix, and invites him to join her, Frella meets back up with Aristide and Eldris, and they travel together to where Raythe is protecting an amazing surprise. Between the intriguing world building, the developing feelings between Frella and all four men, and the paranormal elements of this story, The Dragon Mistress just whet my appetite for more of this wonderful series.Gwendolyn Druyor delivers another amazing performance. She has an incredibly pleasant voice, and her use of accents adds to the mystical, paranormal feeling of the story. I loved her sometimes snarky but always brave delivery of Frella, and she gave each of the main characters a distinctive sound and personality. I can't say enough positive about this story and this narration.I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.
Damned ending arrived to soon. This book is completely entrancing. I longingly look forward to the release of the next two books.
There are five dragons left in the world and these dragons need to bond with someone . I love these group of people the chemistry was great. I sign up to read a chapter everyday. I got excited to open it up and find out which way the story would unfold. This is a great start to a series and I can't wait to see how the story will continue. I voluntarily read a chapter day
Every once in a while you meet a character with unique voice. I love this Frella. She's no-nonesense, take charge, adventurous, and in charge of her own sexuality. This is some of the funniest writing Steffan has done in a while, and it's all because of Frella's unique way to of looking at the world. The gist of the story is that Frella is a lone female traveler in a world that is like our more ancient Middle East or North Africa. She's learned a new language (go her), and is in search of dragons. After her horse is stolen and she's robbed in the first chapter, she meets a bride traveling to her husband and her escorts who help her. During their night of camp, Frella expresses her wish to meet dragons, only sadly find out that they've all been slaughtered. That begins the plot ball rolling, and it's a good one.I've been listening to Steffan and Druyor for two and a half years now through man different series. I already know I'm a fan, but this is the most balls to the wall fun I've had in a long time. I'm already ready for the next installment, but I have to wait while author and narrator work on other projects. For new readers/listeners, this is the start of a third series with characters in The Horse Mistress (about Frella's adopted parents) and the The Lion Mistress (about Frella's brother). You truly don't have to read those books to understand what's going on here, but your experience would be richer if you did.Druyor has a lot of fun with the different accents here. They aren't specific to any certain place, but there are shapes of things she's used before. One of her male characters reminds me of Oksana from the Circle of Blood series because he has a certain lilt to his voice. I also enjoy Frella's adult voice, which is womanly by far but not frail or childlike. It helps the listener like me who has been through 10 books by now to differentiate a twenty-two year old Frella from her at ages four and ten (in the other series respectively).Anyway, get this. It's fun. You know you want to.
Wish it had been longer! Am definitely eager for the next book. It feels like the main story arc - with the dragons - will really get going in the next book, but it was written skillfully so that this book did not feel like filler or like it should have been skipped.Frella was likeable and not so *unique* as to be unrelatable; she felt very "human" (I mean, she *is* human, but you know what I mean). I enjoyed exploring more of the cultures on the continent that we didn't see much of in previous series. There wasn't a tonne of **** in this one, but appropriately so. What on-page **** there was, was super hot.And... riding dragons. How awesome is that?! As a Pern fan, I was not let down by this book as I so often am by other dragon books, but instead am left hopeful that this will have a similar high quality human-dragon relationship but be even better in terms of romance and inclusiveness.
Well written, characters are believable, pulls you in and keeps you there. Not really a reverse harem kinda guy...but even those scenes are well written all in all a worthwhile read
I love how Frella's character has grown throughout the Eburosi Chronicles! My only critique is that this book was too short. The next release can't come soon enough.
I enjoyed this book. It moved along and kept me engaged right to the end. I did not like a cliff hanger ending! But will be looking for next book.
Interesting read with a different take of dragons and their soul bonded riders return to the realm while a tryst is evident
This was a good fun read. I really like the story and the characters are well done. And dragons yay! This book is setting up a good plot and it stops on a cliffhanger. I will continue this series.
What a great story! Frella is a intelligent and independent woman exploring the world! And soon dragons also! I am anxious for the next book to come out!
Enjoyed . The adventures that frella quest for are in her hands Embarking on the likes of a gang ,who would acosta and stolen her goods. Frella was found by a group of guardians to accompany a young woman to the palace. There likes the continuation of the suspense and discovery of an thought dead species. Read to find the outcome. This is book1, now on to book 2.
I enjoyed reading this story even though it ended in a cliffhanger. =(I am wondering if the dragons are going to force the group to staying together since there is a lot of anger amongst a few members.I am glad that the MC is pretty badass even though she let's her hotheadness get her in trouble with her mouthiness. She understands that love is love and isn't ashamed at herself.I can't wait for the next installment.
I absolutely love this series. This is not some trashy **** book but intricate, well thought out relationships, love and acceptance that fills me with longing and a seriously captive story line. I waited just a little while to start Frellas story as I tear through these books. Glad I did because I've still got 2 more! Thank you so much for bringing these people to life and telling their story. I miss them when they are away.
Different, but a well told story. R A Steffen is very talented. This is my first of his books. I started it because of the word "Dragon", quickly became wrapped up in the story and could not put it down.
This amazing series picks up approximately a decade in the future with the story of Frella, the younger sister of one of the heroes of the previous collection. Possibly my favorite thing about Steffan's writing is their ability to create fully fleshed female narrative characters who each have their own strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. Frella is very different from Carival and Kathrael, but she is an intriguing character in her own right, and her story instantly had me hooked.Frella is a strong female character, but she never falls into the pitfalls of that trope. She gets herself into plenty of trouble, and she relies on allies to help herself get out. Her view of relationships and sexuality is also refreshing, because it would be so easy for this series to turn into a torrid drama of who she ends up with in the end. Instead, I care more about each character growing and evolving for themselves. The world of Eburosi also continues to expand, showing Steffan is equally skilled at world-building as they are at characterization and plot. I've noted that other reviews complain that it takes too long to get to the dragons -- I was too busy being entertained by Frella's shenanigans and meeting her new companions to be bothered. But don't worry: When the dragons do arrive, they are absolutely spectacular. This installment works on its own as a complete story, though it does end on a cliffhanger. I have some predictions about how Frella's story will turn out, and I can't wait to read more.
This is such a wonderful, engrossing book. I read the entire thing in one sitting and I’m so excited to read the rest of this fascinating series. As a bisexual woman, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more F/F romance, but I am still extremely pleased with the openness and acceptance the main characters seem to have for LGBTQ+ relationships. I hope to see those explored more in the rest of the novels, maybe Frella’s adopted parents’ relationship? I would love to see that, they sound lovely :) Absolutely would recommend to a friend. Well done!!
I love Frella, she is a little badass but also still feminine. I am also a fan of dragons so this book was an excellent find!! I am really hoping that Nyx becomes apart of the Harem!
I love the Eburosi Chronicles and I was excited to start this new series set in the same world. The Dragon Mistress is told from Frella's point of view, she's the adopted daughter of the main characters from the Horse Mistress series and the sister to Favian who is one of the main characters in the Lion Mistress series. But this one can be read as a standalone, although you will miss a bit of background information and knowledge about Eburos. But as this one takes place in a different place then the first two series, I think it would definitely be possible to start here if you like.I really enjoyed this book. I quickly read through it and just wanted to keep reading as I was excited to read more about Frella. I was curious to see how she would get herself out of the trouble she finds herself in and also how she will connect with the men she meets. There is plenty of adventure, some romance and some **** later in the book. And ofcourse dragons. This book is clearly the introduction, setting the stage for what's to come, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable book and makes me really curious and excited for the later books in the series.Frella makes for a great main character. She has a taste for adventure and has quite the temper. She also has some abandonment issues. While she gets herself into trouble multiple times, she's also capable and smart. I liked reading about her. She's also quite openminded due to her upbringing. The four men she meets along the way are all interesting as well. They all have some past or things to hide and we only get some glimpses of those things, which makes me even more curious to learn more about them. While I feel like we only scratched the surface of who these men really are, it was easy to form an image of all four of them and after the first few scenes I had no trouble remembering who was who. Rayth is the one I like the least so far as he can be quite rude, although I except he will become more interesting as the series progress I have a hard time liking him so far. Eldris and Aristede are both great. Eldris is kind and steady and Aristede is the charming type. I like the dynamic between them and how they are clearly good friends. And Nyx is great too and I like how he is a bit shyer and quieter than the rest.I like the slow steps Frella makes into romance with some of the guys and how her relationship with each of them develops in a different way. I am excited to see how the romance will develop. I liked how she already trusts and feels comfortable with some of them and I thought their romance developed in a realistic manner even if things progressed fast, it felt right for these characters. There is a steamy **** scene toward the end of the book and I am always impressed with how this author manages to write good **** scenes that are different from what you read in most books while at the same time also showing the caring and kindness between the characters. Even in the middle of the **** they communicate and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves, which is great to read about. It was interesting to have this book take place in a totally different country than the first two books. At first I was a bit surprised by this development, but it totally makes sense why the story is set there. Although I would've liked to see a bit of Eburos, that would've slowed down the start of the book, so I can see why the author decided to start the book where she did. There are no recurring characters form the previous series due to this, although there are some mentions of those characters and events that take place in those series.I enjoyed learning more about this country and it's customs and also how they differ. There are some fun scenes where we see the differences between Frella and her customs compared to the characters she meets. And then there are the dragons. We only get a glimpse of them in this book, but I can't wait to read more about them and get a feel for their personalities as well.To summarize: This was a great start to this new series and I wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next. Frella is the main character of this books and she finds herself into some trouble while visiting a different country. I liked following her story and reading about her and the four men she meets. Frella was smart, capable and confident, but also has some abandonment issues. The four men she meets all have some secrets or something in their past that shapes who they are and we only get a glimpse of what that is, but I liked getting some glimpses and wondering what more there is to these characters. They are all different and it's easy to remember who is who. I liked the beginnings of the romance and how Frella warms up to the guys in varying degrees. There is a bit of **** toward the end of the book and I like the way this author writes **** scenes with how the characters care about each other and are considerate during the ****. It was interesting to read about a different country w...
I just knew I would love Frella's story from the moment I met her (which was in The Lion Mistress books and then the The Horse Mistress).Steffan did not disappoint. I loved Kathrael and Carivel's personalities but Frella is so badass and fearless. I love her. Absolutely love her.I also love all the other characters so far. Steffan has this way of portraying beautifully flawed characters and giving glimpses of tragic back stories, before revealing all, that I just adore. I can't wait to see what's in store with these characters.Sometimes series like this can seem stale after awhile but so far I'm not disappointed at all. I read this in one sitting (and likely won't sleep so I can start the next!).Only downside, which we are warned about, is that it has a cliffhanger ending. And honestly It's brilliant.
